Australia are in the Fed Cup semi-finals for the first time since 1993 after a comprehensive 4-0 win over Russia in Hobart.
The Russians went into the second day 2-0 down and so Samantha Stosur knew a win against Victoria Kan would seal victory for the Aussies.
She took the first set 6-2 against Kan who is ranked 142 places below her in the world rankings.
And the former US Open winner made short work of Kan to take the next set 6-3. Such was her dominance, she won 24 of 25 points on first serve. It was always going to be tough for last year's finalists who are missing 13 top-ranked players this time round including the likes of Maria Sharapova and Maria Kirilenko.
Later Casey Dellacqua and Ashleigh Barty beat Irina Khromacheva and Valeria Solovyeva 6-1, 6-3 in the doubles. It is the first time in eight years that Russia have been knocked out in the opening round.
