  • Intro:

The first two matches of the Fed Cup World Group first round best-of-five rubbers tie between Australia and Russia saw Casey Dellacqua (AUS) beat Irina Khromacheva (RUS) 6-0, 6-2 and Sam Stosur (AUS) win 6-4, 6-0 against Veronika Kudermetova (RUS) on Saturday.

    Script:

Australia's home Fed Cup World Group first round tie against Russia began with Casey Dellacqua against 18-year-old Russian Irina Khromacheva.

Ten years separated the two players and six games without reply was the margin by which Dellacqua won the first set.

It wasn't so one-sided in the second set and Khromacheva pulled it back to 3-1 in the fourth game.

But the 28-year-old from Perth broke Khromacheva in the second set, on the way to winning 6-2 and the match.

Next up was Australia's Sam Stosur versus Veronika Kudermetova and the Russian's wide ace gave her an early one game lead.

The 17-year-old then forced Stosur deep behind the base-line but she mis-cued by somehow hitting this forehand long. Her mistake proved costly, as Stosur eventually took the first set 6-4.

The world number 16 then eased to victory with a six love success in the final set to hand Australia a 2-0 lead.
