An old rivalry was reignited as Rafa Nadal faced Roger Federer in the semi-finals of the Australian Open.

Federer has historically struggled against Rafael Nadal, losing 22 of their 32 previous meetings, but had looked in fine form, dispatching Andy Murray in the quarter-finals.

And the first set went according to the head-to-head, as Nadal won it in a tie-break.

The Spaniard, who has been suffering with blisters throughout the tournament, showed great hands to break Federer in the six game of the second set.

Nadal took the set 6-3, putting him firmly in control against the 17-time Grand Slam champion.

And Nadal won the third 6-3, to wrap up a 7-6 6-3, 6-3 win to reach his third Australian Open final, where he will face Stanislas Wawrinka.
