  • Intro:

Alex Rodriguez says his season-long suspension could be a benefit, allowing him to rest and return to the Yankees for the final three years of his contract.

Speaking in Mexico City, he declined to talk specifically about his suspension for violating baseball's drug agreement and labour contract.

    SOUNDBITE: (Spanish): Alex Rodriguez:

"First I think that the year 2014 could be a big favour they've done for me because playing 20 years without a time out, I think 2014 is a good year to rest mentally and physically and prepare for the future and begin a new chapter in my life. I have 3 years left on my contract starting in 2015 and I hope to play very well and finish my career in New York."

    SOUNDBITE: (Spanish): Alex Rodriguez:

"The support that I've received, not just from my Yankee teammates, but also players from other teams, retired players, hall of famers, and lots of good people, owners of other teams. To tell you the truth, it's a very sad situation and we hope to get this out of every newspaper and start concentrating on all the good things that MLB is doing, the young players, etc. and move forward."
