    There was further late action in the heat of Melbourne as play continued on day three of the Australian Open.

    World No. 28 Vasek Pospisil of Canada overcame a back injury, for which he had to take constant painkillers, to beat Australia's Matt Ebden 3-6, 7-6, 7-6, 6-1.

    Whilst number eight seed Stanislas Wawrinka beat Alejandro Falla of Colombia in four sets.

    In the women's side of the draw former French Open champion Ana Ivanovic progressed to the third round after beating Annika Beck of Germany 6-1, 6-2.

    Whilst American Lauren Davis beat Julia Goerges 7-5, 2-6, 6-4. And Fabio Fognini defeated Jarkko Nieminen 7-5, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

    The tournament continues on Thursday with temperatures predicted to rise well above the 42 C benchmark that was set on day three.
