    Defending champion Bernard Tomic was outclassed 6-3 6-1 by world number five Juan Martin del Potro as he relinquished his Sydney International title.

    Home favourite Bernard Tomic had the crowd behind him as he looked to retain his Sydney International title in the final against Juan Martin del Potro.

    The first set had been going with serve until a disastrous seventh game for Tomic.

    The 2009 US Open champion had momentum by this stage and was giving Tomic the runaround at the early stages of the second set.

    World number 52 Tomic simply couldn't cope.

    Del Potro seeing out a thumping straight sets victory in style for his 18th career title.

    He'll be red hot favourite as he faces Rhyne Williams in the first round of the Australian Open.

    Tomic meanwhile has the daunting task of taking on defending champion and world number one Rafael Nadal.
