Top-seed Juan Martin del Potro advanced to the Sydney International final with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Russian fourth seed Dmitry Tursunov on Friday - as the Argentine continued his fine tuning for next weeks Australian Open.

Tursunov won the Sydney title in 2008, but Del Potro broke him three times to power past the world number 32 in just over an hour.

The former US Open champion sent down nine aces in nine service games en route to the 25th final of his career.

Del Potro launches his Australian Open campaign against a qualifier next week and will head to Melbourne Park with plenty of confidence after four matches under his belt in Sydney.

The 25-year-old will meet Australian defending champion Bernard Tomic in the final.

Tomic was forced to come from behind to beat Ukrainian qualifier Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-7 (4-7) 7-5 6-3.
