There were clear skies and some gusty winds for the first event of the Deer Valley Freestyle World Cup weekend on Thursday, as the tour arrived at the famous Utah resort for a bright night of moguls.

The ladies' event was won by Hannah Kearney, who celebrated her 100th World Cup event with a win on home soil.

Kearney's career success rate thus far is impressive.

In 57 percent of the moguls events she's entered, she has reached the podium - and she has won 38 percent of her career World Cup events.

On Thursday night, she claimed her latest win by seeing off competition from Canadians Chloe Dufour-Lapointe and her younger sister Justine.

The result gives Chloe back-to-back second-place finishes, suggesting that she is peaking at the right time after registering only three podiums last season.

For Justine, the third-place finish is a slight step back after a flawless performance in Calgary last weekend.

In the men's event, Canada enjoyed more success and swept the podium.

Mikael Kingsbury and Alex Bilodeau took their standard places on the top two steps of the podium, where they were joined by team-mate Marc-Antoine Gagnon.

Kingsbury was his typical powerful self while Bilodeau managed to hold on to second, despite an unconvincing performance.

For Gagnon, however, his first World Cup podium comes at the end of a 12-month stretch that has seen him more often outside the top 10, including a tough 30th-placed finish last week in Calgary.
