Formula One legend Michael Schumacher remains in a "stable but critical condition" at the Grenoble University Hospital, eight days after suffering from a traumatic head injury in a skiing accident in the French Alps.

Schumacher's manager Sabine Kehm said yesterday she does not want to make any announcement in terms of a potential update on Michael's condition to the press.

Schumacher's family, including father Rolf and brother Ralf, his wife Corinna and family friends Doctor Saillant and FIA President Jean Todt have been at his bedside all week long.

There has been speculation as to Michael's speed at the time of the accident - but Kehm has claimed her client was going slowly, trying to help a friend when he hit a rock.

Schumacher is the most successful F1 driver in history, registering a record 91 race wins.

He retired from Formula One in 2012, after winning an historic seven world titles.

In retirement, he remains an avid skier, skydiver and horseback rider.
