Formula One legend Michael Schumacher spent his fourth night in hospital following his skiing accident in the French Alps.

On Wednesday, Schumacher's manager, Sabine Kehm, confirmed that, although his condition is still critical doctors have seen an improvement since Tuesday.

Yet, the seven-time World Champion remains in a medically induced coma and therapeutic hypothermia.

His wife Corinna and two children - 16-year-old daughter Gina-Maria and 14-year-old son Mick - remain at his bedside.

The German fell, whilst skiing, and hit his head on a rock on Sunday.

His accident has drawn immense media attention, and Kehm confirmed that earlier in the week security at the hospital stopped a journalist who was posing as a priest from approaching Schumacher.

Kehm said the Schumacher family traditionally spends Christmas and New Year holidays at Meribel, where they own a chalet.
Every year they celebrate his birthday there on January 3rd. This year he will be 45.

Schumacher is the most successful F1 driver in history, racking up a record 91 race wins. He retired from Formula One in 2012.
