    Speaking in Manila on Thursday, outgoing NBA commissioner David Stern said he 'wouldn't be that hopeful' that regular season games could be mounted in the basketball-mad Philippines.

    "It's pretty clear that the future of the NBA is going to involve at a minimum two things that are very important. The first is digital, and that's an area in which Adam (NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver - Stern's successor) excels, digital/social media, and globalisation, where the international side has reported to Adam for some time."

    (dismissing having a regular season game in the Philippines)

    "I wouldn't be that hopeful, okay, because, number one, regular season games are hard. They're much more expensive to mount. There are different competitive considerations. I like the use of the word 'friendly' as I see football teams around the world playing friendlies all over the world, and I think the friendlies work fine for us."
