The Cambridgeshire was taking place at Newmarket on Saturday - a race with a rich pedigree dating back to the first run in 1839.

Third-five horses were due to contest the flat race over nine furlongs, but there were two non-runners.

A late surge from Bronze Angel, who moved over from the left of the course to the faster runners on the right, secured victory in a time of one minute, 47.73 seconds, close to the race record.

Ridden by William Buick, Bronze Angel edged out Mull of Killough to take the top prize.

Boom And Bust came home in third place after another strong performance.

Prior to this meeting, Bronze Angel had not competed since Royal Ascot.
