The media had to get up very early on Thursday to catch a glimpse of one of the horseracing's hot favourites, Black Caviar.

The 6 year-old Australian mare, took to the gallops at the famous Newmarket stables in Suffolk at half past four in the morning.

The unbeaten thoroughbred arrived in Britain last Friday and is enjoying royal treatment.

When not under saddle, the 21-time winner wears a Lycra body compression suit, similar to those used by athletes.

According to Black Caviar's trainers, the suit helped with blood movement during the 30-hour flight from Australia and provides support for the muscles when walking.

The Australian Racehorse of the Year and World Champion Sprinter - among a host of other ttles and accolades - is due to take part at the Royal Ascot meeting next week, closing the event as the start attraction in next Saturday's Group One Diamond Jubilee Stakes (June 22nd).

Nick Smith, the Head of Communications and International Racing at Ascot Racecourse, described the hugely anticiapted appearance of Black Caviar at Ascot as "Unique".

SOUNDBITE: (English) Nick Smith, Head of Communications and International Racing at Ascot Racecourse:

Everyone wants Black Caviar to win, everyone wants to see, experience and share in the atmosphere she's been able to create all round Australia, obviously lacking in Adelaide (NOTE: Black Caviar won her 21st race in the South Australian capital, upstaging a local favourite) ... yeah, we just want her to get there (Ascot) in one piece and just to win the race and just to bring the meeting to a fantastic conclusion."

Society Rock, Hoof It and Moonlight Cloud are all expected to give Black Caviar a run for her money.
