Andy Murray faced a tricky start to his defence of the AEGON Championships at London's Queen's Club.

The top seed took to the court on Wednesday against a renowned grass-court player, Nicolas Mahut.

The Frenchman took the first set 6-3.

Murray has recently suffered with a back injury and Mahut was forcing the Scot to work hard to win the second set tie-break.

The deciding set was closely fought and came down to another tie break.

Mahut won it easily 7-1, securing a deserved victory over the two time champion with Wimbledon looming large on the calendar.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Andy Murray, World number four
"There's no need for me to panic. I lost the match 7-6 in the third in the first round (sic) of the tournament. It takes a bit of time to adjust to the grass courts."

Murray was one of eight seeds to be knocked out on Wednesday.

Andy Roddick is a four-time winner at Queen's but the American suffered a shock defeat to Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

Jo Wilfried Tsonga wrapped up a memorable day for French tennis with a straight sets win over Britain's Jamie Baker.

Tsonga will be looking to build momentum on the grass ahead of Wimbledon, which starts on June 25th.
