    Script:

It's been an excellent year for Agnieszka Radwanska.

But the world number three faced tough opposition in the second-round of the Italian Open when she faced Petra Cetkovska on Wednesday.

The Czech player's only ranked 28 but she broke early and powered on to take the first set by six games to four.

Radwanska continued to struggle with Cetkovska's flat, powerful groundstrokes, but battled through to level the match at one-set all.

The scene was set for a gripping decider, but Cetkovska fired forward to take it 6-1.

Cetkovska will next play Flavia Pennetta.

Australia's Sam Stosur's also through to the third round despite a spirited second-set fightback from home favourite Sara Errani.

The fifth seed took the match 6-3, 7-5.

Tournament veteran Venus Williams was up against Ekaterina Makarova.

The Russian held Williams to a tie-break in the first set, but lost it 9-7.

The seven-time Grand Slam champion stormed on to finish off the match 7-6, 6-1.

Her sister Serena Williams was also on court, but she had a tougher time in her second-round match.

Nadia Petrova took the first set 6-4 putting pressure on the 9th seed.

The Russian wasn't able to hold off Williams in the second though as the American evened the scores, taking the set 6-2.

Only a matter of time then before Williams finished off the decider 6-3 to earn her place in the third round.
