Second seed Maria Sharapova cruised into the semi-finals of the Sony Ericsson Open on Tuesday (27th March) after ending her jinx against China's Li Na with an impressive 6-3 6-0 victory.

Second seed Maria Sharapova's aggressive play against China's Li Na helped her ease into the semi-finals of the Sony Ericsson Open on Tuesday (27th March).

The Russian had lost her previous four meetings with Li, but took the opener 6-3 before racing through to bagel the 2011 French Open winner in the second sealing an impressive win in just 68 minutes.

Two former world number ones met in the second quarter final on Tuesday when five time former Champion Serena Williams faced fourth seed Caroline Wozniacki.

The Danish player served well and took the first set 6-4.

While Williams showed glimpses of her best, her game was riddled with errors and Wozniacki played the big points with confidence.

Despite a minor blip in game eight, the Dane served out to win 6-4 6-4 thanks to another Williams mistake.

Older sister Venus Williams will be hoping to fare better when she takes on Agnieszka Radwanska in her quarter final on Wednesday with the match between Victoria Azarenka and Marion Bartoli completing the line up.
