  • Intro:

Adriano scored the only goal in the fourth minute as Corinthians beat Botafogo 1-0 on Saturday (25th February).

Corinthians made it four wins in their last four matches, to extend their lead at the top of the Paulista table to four points after ten matches, while struggling Botafogo lost for the fifth time in six matches.

    Script:

Corinthians were looking to stay top of the Brazilian Paulista when they hosted Botafogo on Saturday.

And they made the perfect start - three minutes in Adriano converted after some sloppy defending.

Replays show the former Inter Milan striker was just onside before he squeezed the ball home.

Six minutes later Leo Goncalves forced a tidy save from Julio Cesar in the home goal.

Just before the break Adriano should have scored his and Corinthians second, but headed wide with the goal at his mercy.

In the second half Corinthians continued to push forward, but once again Adriano spurned a seemingly simple chance.

It finished 1-0 - Corinthians stay top while Botafogo remain in relegation trouble.
