Maurizio Sarri 'could replace' Mikel Arteta at Arsenal - but Tottenham remains an option

Former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has emerged as a potential replacement for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, should the Spaniard be relieved of his duties.

Sarri has been out of work since last summer, when he was sacked by Juventus despite wrapping up the Serie A title.

Arteta's days at Arsenal look to be numbered as the Gunners fell short in their quest for the Europa League title, and they are now facing the prospect of no European football next campaign.

Arsenal, who sit in 10th, have largely underwhelmed this season, and calls for Arteta to be sacked are gaining momentum with each passing week.

“Sarri could go to England,” Gazzetta Dello Sport journalist, Carlo Laudisa, told Radio Punto Nuovo.

“The Tottenham solution being the most plausible, but the Arsenal bench could also become free, as Arteta has missed all the Gunners’ season goals.”

Tottenham sacked Jose Mourinho last month, and Ryan Mason has been named interim manager until the end of the season, leaving a vacant spot that Sarri could fill.

However, differing reports in Italy suggest that Sarri isn't comfortable with moving to England amidst the pandemic in case he can't return to Italy.

The former banker is in high demand, however, and he was linked with the Roma job - before Mourinho took over.

Whilst, AC Milan are also monitoring his situation, and they could move for Sarri should they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
