Camp Nou return? As PSG are sent packing from Champions League, Neymar tipped to reunite with Messi at Barcelona

Paris Saint-Germain's exit from Europe this evening could prove doubly costly this summer, if the latest word stemming from South America is to be believed.

Mahrez at the double

Mauricio Pochettino's men were of course back in action a short time ago.

The French champions made the trip to the Etihad, for a crunch Champions League semi-final 2nd-leg showdown with Manchester City.

PSG headed into proceedings with a hill to climb, after surrendering an advantage in the tie's opener last time out to eventually succumb to a 2-1 defeat.

When all was said and done in Manchester this evening, though, the capital giants, minus the talents of Kylian Mbappe, were simply outclassed by a superb City side.

Riyad Mahrez proved the star of the show, adding to his first-leg strike with a further brace.

The Algerian's first came with just ten minutes on the clock, when Kevin De Bruyne's strike was blocked down, only for Mahrez to pick up the pieces and slot between the legs of Keylor Navas from a tight angle:

Then, just past the hour mark, City's in-form wide-man was at it again, rounding out a wonderful team move involving Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden to kill off any remaining hope of a PSG comeback:

Manchester City, in turn, march on, to face either Chelsea or Real Madrid in the Champions League showpiece later this month.

Neymar on the move?

For PSG, though, the inquest will now get underway.

After being dealt a heartbreaking defeat in last season's competition finale, the Ligue 1 champions no doubt headed into the new campaign with revenge, and European glory, very much on their minds.

Tonight, though, sans the services of a number of key players, Pochettino's men simply were simply out-thought, out-fought and outplayed.

And, as outlined above, if speculation doing the rounds in the media over the last 24 hours is to be believed, then the club's latest failure on the continent could prove extra costly, come the summer.

As per a report from ESPN Argentina, Lionel Messi is on the verge of penning a new two-year contract with Barcelona.

Not only that, but, in a further boost for the Blaugrana faithful, it is suggested that the hierarchy at the Camp Nou are ready to do whatever it takes reunite their talisman with close friend and former partner in crime Neymar.

And the Brazilian, for his part, is thought to be keen on such a move, as he looks to add to a previous Champions League winners' medal secured as a Barca player in 2015.
