Beyond the news and rumours that will continue to appear as January 1 approaches, Real Madrid are staying calm about Sergio Ramos' future at the club.

The new year will allow the captain to talk to other clubs ahead of a free transfer when his contract expires next summer, but nobody at the club is worrying yet.

There's an understanding that Ramos and president Florentino Perez enjoy a good relationship and that communication has been fluid and regular over the last few months on a number of varying issues.

Florentino and Ramos have worked together for well over a decade now and they have come to understand each other through difficult times, always overcoming them.

The captain and president will have the chance to speak during Real Madrid's trip to take on Villarreal in LaLiga Santander after the international break.

If nothing gets in their way, it should present them with a perfect opportunity to make progress in their talks.

Real Madrid don't know anything about any offers that may have been received by their captain, as he has not passed on any information regarding any interested clubs. They do, though, suspect that clubs are bound to be interested in the defender's services.

Los Blancos plan to count on Ramos for the future, and an extension will be offered to him.

They haven't changed their mind on the matter of length, though, and are standing firm in their position that the contacts of their older players have to be managed on a season to season basis.

Ramos is confident that he has it in him to stay at the top level for a few more seasons. He knows there are clubs who would offer him a three-year deal, but until now he hasn't sat to speak directly with the president.

For now, despite the noise in the media, Ramos and the club are calm. They'll sit, talk and seek an agreement. If it doesn't happen at Villarreal, there will be other chances to talk.
