Former Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow believes Jurgen Klopp will not be tempted to leave the club for Real Madrid
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp would have no interest in the vacant Real Madrid job, according to Christian Purslow.
Zinedine Zidane shocked the footballing world by announcing his departure from Madrid on Thursday, having claimed a third successive Champions League title by defeating Klopp's side in the final just five days earlier.
Klopp is one of a number of names to have been mooted as a possible replacement for Zidane, but Purslow cannot see the German walking away from Anfield.
"The key difference I think for the last five, 10, 15, 20 years, is the sheer amount of wealth in the Premier League means there's no economic reason for those managers to move to Real Madrid," the former Liverpool managing director said.
"It boils down to prestige, trophies and where they see the potential of their current situation."
"There is no way I think Jurgen Klopp is going to be tempted to move given the season he's just come off."
Purslow was at Liverpool from 2009 until 2011 and helped oversee the sale of the club, before moving to Chelsea as head of global commercial activities in 2014.
During his time at Stamford Bridge, Purslow developed a strong respect for the running of London rivals Tottenham by chairman Daniel Levy.
With Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino another name linked to the Madrid job, Purslow believes Levy has been smart to tie the Argentine to a new long-term contract, but is not sure that will guarantee he stays.
"I'm less certain about Pochettino," Purslow said. "I saw his comments today and he didn't exactly dismiss it.
"He's got a long-term contract - well done Daniel Levy. It would cost Madrid a huge amount of money to sign Pochettino, to break that contract.
"But I think if they offer Spurs £50m and he wanted to go, stranger things have happened in football."
