CHRISTMAS is usually the time for giving, but the festive spirit hit Dusan Tadic early as he almost ended up celebrating Southampton's survival starkers.

The Serbian was left in just his underwear out on the pitch after handing almost his entire kit to home supporters.

Tadic, 29, and his Saints team-mates went in today's showdown knowing that only a miraculous turn of results would relegate them.

They were already in party mood after their critical victory at Swansea in midweek all-but ensured their survival.

But their stay in the top-flight was officially confirmed this afternoon despite their late defeat to Manchester City.

And forward Tadic was definitely in the mood to party afterwards.

The Serbian ended up in just his pants on the squad's lap of appreciation at St Mary's

After a long and sometimes tortuous campaign the ex-Twente winger was keen to give something back to the St Mary's faithful for their support.

And as the squad made their way around the pitch for a post-season lap of appreciation he began handing items of his kit to fans.

The shirt, socks, boots, shin pads and shorts were handing out by Tadic to leave him in just his pants.

Luckily he did not get caught with his pants down as he opted against showing off his tackle as he sensibly decided to keep his briefs on.

Wild scenes had engulfed the ground just moments earlier in a dramatic climax to the clash.

Gabriel Jesus struck the only goal of the game to ensure that City became the first side ever to reach 100 points in a Prem season.

The result left Saints in 17th place and three points above Swansea in the final relegation spot.
