Liverpool star shares heartbreaking picture ahead of Champions League final

LIVERPOOL'S Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has shared an emotional picture on Instagram ahead of the Champions League final.

The Ox provided an injury update to anxious LFC fans from his hospital bed.

The midfielder posted a picture of himself lying in bed watching his teammates take on Roma in the Champion's League semi-final last week.

Wearing a hospital gown with tubes attached to him, Oxlade-Chamberlain looked sombre as he watched the game on a small laptop screen.

He wrote: "Watching the boys in Rome last week taking us one step closer to something very special.

"Knee surgery was a success and the hard work has already begun," accompanied by a muscle flex emoji.

The "Ox" was forced from the field after 18 minutes of the Reds' 5-2 victory at Anfield over Roma after a challenge went wrote.

Unfortunately for Liverpool fans, he is out for the rest of the season and will miss the Champions League final.

In a statement, Liverpool FC explained that he has already started his path to recovery.

They said: "The 24-year-old was assessed by the club’s medical team at Melwood on Wednesday morning and no specific timescale is being placed upon his return to action at this stage.

"However, Oxlade-Chamberlain will now begin a rehabilitation programme to enable him to reach full fitness again as soon as possible, returning to action next season."

It is understood he will also miss the World Cup due to the extent of the injury.

Fans flocked to wish Oxlande-Chamberlain well on Instagram,

"Wish you safe recovery big man," wrote one supporter.

"Ynwa in this Recovery Period ..I hope for your fast recovery bro!" commented another.

Chamberlain will no doubt be heartbroken to miss the opportunity to play in the final, but is getting behind the lads on their Kiev journey from afar.

The Reds take on Real Madrid on May 26 in a bid to win their sixth European Cup.
