Everyone trolls Spurs following Champions League collapse

Champions League collapse

Tottenham were the brunt of several jokes this evening as their Wembley collapse against Juventus sealed their Champions League exit.

Spurs looked the most likely to score in the first half, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane going closest.

Though, Juventus should have been given a penalty when Douglas Costa was brought down by Jan Vertonghen.

The referee waved away protests from the Italian’s and Spurs got away with one.

Then, Spurs inflicted more pain when they got the goal that would put Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the driving seat through Son.

Andrea Barzagli denied Dele Alli with one of the tackles of the week but the ball fell out to Kieran Tripper who put it across the box for the Korean.

While his shot was mishit, that fooled Gianluigi Buffon and that had everyone thinking Spurs were on for the upset.

Though, in typical Tottenham fashion, they fell apart on the 64th minute.

Crumble

Juventus started the second half slowly but they soon became a threat in front of Hugo Lloris’ net.

Then, came the comeback as Gonzalo Higuain was found with a brilliant cross on the edge of the six-yard box, tapping home expertly.

That instantly had the Spurs defence in panic stations and the game started to open up.

Then, before you knew it, Paulo Dybala had made it 2-1 to Juventus and last years finalists had completed the comeback.

That gave them a 4-3 lead on aggregate and it was all to play for going into the final 20 minutes.

Safe to say, Tottenham gave all they could to get the goal that they needed to take the game to extra time.

The Londoners went close through Son again and nearly took the game to extra time in the final minute of normal time.

Harry Kane rose highest in the penalty area with his header coming off the inside of the post and rolling agonisingly across the goal line.

That sealed Juventus’ place in the quarter-final of the Champions League and had Spurs only blaming themselves.

Spurs trolled

You know how this works these days, no one is safe on social media and it was no different this evening.

Spurs let a lead slip in incredible fashion and social media let them know just how bad it was.
