Messi prepares to return amid rumours of financial uncertainty at Barca

  • All eyes were on Lionel Messi on Tuesday after he was named in Barcelona's squad for their upcoming last 16 Copa del Rey match at Rayo Vallecano.

    Head coach Ronald Koeman has included Messi after the striker completed a two game ban following his red card in the Spanish Super Cup final against Athletic Club.

    Messi did not play against Cornella in the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey last week, nor against Elche in the Spanish league on Sunday - Barcelona won both matches 2-0.

    The Catalan club trail La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid by 10 points and are three points behind second-place Real Madrid entering the second half of the season.

    Messi's appearance comes as reports in the Spanish media suggest Barcelona are struggling financially as the effects of coronavirus continue to take hold.
