Neymar admits exaggerated reactions at World Cup in Brazilian ad campaign

Wednesday, August 01 2018 by 7MTV
  • Gillette sponsored advertisement showing images of Brazilian footballer Neymar.

UPSOUND (Portuguese) Neymar's voice: "Football studs on your calf, a knee on your back, stamp on your feet. You may think I exaggerate. And sometimes I do exaggerate. I took long to accept your criticism. I took long to look at myself in the mirror and become a new man, but today I'm here."

SOUNDBITE (Portuguese) Taynah Espinoza, TV commentator, Esporte Interativo channel:

"I think he (Neymar) understood what happened during the World Cup, he recognised that his image was damaged and that, for me, is an important step but the problem is that in that advertisement, if there is not a final stamp (of the Gilette brand), you don't know that it's an advertisement, you think that it's Neymar speaking. When you see the stamp (of the Gillette brand), it shows you that it was sold and, in some way, I think Neymar sold the feelings and it's difficult to ask people (fans) to understand that what he is saying is sincere, because he is earning money with that. It's difficult to think that you are earning money being sincere but selling your feelings."
