    "First of all, this is a beautiful challenge. So exciting. In the current circumstances, I accept this responsibility with courage, it couldn't be any other way, aware that we have a group of staff and players who have been working towards the World Cup for two years. I have been sporting director (of Royal Spanish Football Federation) for the last seven or eight months and I understand everybody's great excitement, I just couldn't let them down. Beyond that, I have the greatest respect and affection for Julen (Julen Lopetegui, sacked Spain coach) for the great work he has done over these last two years. Without a doubt, I wish him the best in this new stage (of his career)."
