Wellington Phoenix beat 10-man Melbourne Victory

Thursday, January 11 2018 by 7MTV
  • There was a dramatic start to the A-League clash between Wellington Phoenix and Melbourne Victory.

With less than ten minutes played Rhys Williams received a straight red, after Mathew Conger consulted with the Video Assistant Referee.

However, it was the 10-men that took the lead five minutes before the interval.

Kostas Barbarouses, displayed neat feet before firing in from a tight angle. Phoenix goalkeeper Lewis Italiano will be disappointed to be beaten at his near post.

The hosts got back on level terms in the second half, courtesy of a shocking error from Lawrence Thomas.

Thomas let a routine strike slip through his fingers, allowing Roy Krishna to tap in from a yard out.
And Phoenix grabbed a winner late on, when Victory Mark Milligan, turned the ball into his own net.

Despite the win Wellington Phoenix remain bottom of the A-League standings, Melbourne Victory sit 5th.
