Real comeback secures Club World Cup final spot

Thursday, December 14 2017 by 7MTV
  • Real Madrid booked their place in the Club World Cup final with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Abu Dhabi side Al Jazira at the Sheikh Zayed Sports City stadium on Wednesday (13th December).

How Real Madrid didn't take the lead inside seven minutes in their Club World Cup semi-final against Al Jazira in Abu Dhabi, no one really knew.

Jazira's Ali Khaseif came to the rescue for the UAE champions on more than one occasion. Not least with this save from Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real thought they had finally found a breakthrough in the 30th minute, but Casemiro's header was ruled out for offside after video technology was called upon.

Then, the unthinkable happened, Al Jazira took the lead five minutes before half-time. Brazilian Romarinho placed the ball past Navas and sent the Sheikh Zayed Sports City stadium into rapture.
In the second half, Real found the goals. They swiftly equalised through Cristiano Ronaldo in the 53rd minute.

Then it was Gareth Bale who broke Al Jazira's hearts with the winner nine minutes from time.
The 2-1 win for Real Madrid, who have won the Club World Cup in two of the last three years, means they will face Gremio in Saturday's final.
