PSV drop points at home

  • Dutch Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven were held to a goalless draw by 10-man FC Groningen on Sunday (28th August).

PSV Eindhoven welcomed FC Groningen to the Philips Stadium looking to extend their winning start to the season following two consecutive victories.

The visitors were looking for their first points of the new campaign after back-to-back defeats.

That task seemed all the more unlikely shortly after the half-hour mark when midfielder Juninho Bacuna was sent off for a second bookable offence after fouling Luciano Narsingh.

The Dutch youngster was not impressed his game had been cut short.

PSV pressed for an opener against 10 men and were awarded a penalty two minutes before the interval when Narsingh was tripped in the box.

However, striker Luuk De Jong saw his kick saved by goalkeeper Sergio Padt who produced a man-of-the-match display.

Padt tipped a Jose Guardado effort over the bar in the 52nd minute before denying De Jong again in the closing stages as FC Groningen held on for their first point of the new season.

PSV remained in second place with 10 points, two adrift of leaders Feyenoord.
