Russia will not compete at the Rio Paralympic Games after the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld its ban.

The Russian Paralympic Committee had challenged the suspension, imposed by the International Paralympic Committee but CAS found that that decision was justified.

A damning report earlier this month found the country engulfed in a state-sponsored doping programme, which shocked the sporting world.

The IPC's decision is in contrast to the International Olympic Committee which chose not to hand Russia a blanket ban from the Olympic Games.

The IPC's decision to ban the entire Russian team "was proportionate in the circumstances", according to the CAS panel, which said it would publish the full grounds for its decision in the near future.
