  • Angelique Kerber progressed to the final of the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Simona Halep on Saturday (20th August).

Second seed Angelique Kerber faced third seeded Simona Halep in the second semi-final of the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati.

Kerber dominated after a half-hour rain delay during the first set.

The German took the first set and raced to a 4-0 lead in the second before wrapping up the match 6-3, 6-4.

Kerber's opponent in Sunday's final will be Karolina Pliskova, who beat Garbine Muguruza 6-1, 6-3 in the other semi.

If Kerber wins, she'll replace Serena Williams at the top of the world rankings.

Williams has been number one for 183 consecutive weeks, the second-longest streak.
