IOC president Thomas Bach described the Rio Olympic Games as "iconic" on Saturday (20th August), as he took part in his final press conference before Sunday's closing ceremony.

"It's iconic Games and it's also also a Games that is in the middle of reality. You know, these Games have not been organised in a bubble, these Games have been organised in a city where there are social problems, where there are social divides, where real life continued during these Olympic Games, and I think that this was very good for everybody, there to be close to reality, not to have in a bubble in 16 days the Olympic Games somehow being isolated."
