Aussie swimmers reflect on Rio medals

Monday, August 15 2016 by SNTV
  • Some of Australia's medal-winning swimmers at the Rio Olympics faced the media on Sunday (14th August).

SOUNDBITE: (English) Kyle Chalmers, Australian swimming medallist:

"Going into that heat of the 100 freestyle I felt very comfortable going in their with Cam. I didn't know many of the guys either, which probably helped me in a way as well because I haven't really followed swimming a whole lot. But yeah, I just really enjoyed the experience and I think that's what helped me perform to my best, and I knew that once I got into that final I'd done my job because I was ranked seventh, I think, coming into it, and that was mine an Peter's goal to make the final, progress through the rounds... and yeah, I just gave it my all in the final and it worked out well."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Mitchell Larkin, Australian swimming medallist:

"It was a dream come true (to win a medal). But, like I said, we swim at a time where (Michael) Phelps makes it look easy, and you've got people like (Katie) Ledecky as well who are absolutely incredible athletes - and the U.S. certainly have something special, and we're trying to replicate it and I guess learn as much as we can... and, you know, once Phelps retires we'll see, I guess, if someone is able to step up and I guess replicate what he's been able to do for the last, you know, ten, fifteen, twenty years in the pool."
