  • Defending Champion Jenn Suhr on Sunday (14th August) looked ahead to the pole vault getting underway in Rio.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Jenn Suhr, USA pole vaulter (on her preparations):

"I'm feeling good physically, everything is working, I haven't been injured. (I'm) always nervous, you know, you don't know what to expect, but I think going in knowing that I have prepared the best I could, that's the confidence of knowing that I'm jumping well and that builds confidence. I just wish I could force the future."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Jenn Suhr, USA pole vaulter (on pressure):

"You know, I think I put pressure on myself, but when I look at it, I think 'man, I could be in this situation where this is my third Olympics and I hadn't won anything'. You know that would be a lot of pressure, so having won a silver and gold, it doesn't put as much pressure on me, but I definitely would like to repeat."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Jenn Suhr, USA pole vaulter (on reaching her third Olympics):

"It would mean a lot. I mean just to get to a third Olympics was hard. I mean qualifying in the US trial system, that was really special to me and very emotional. So I think even to get on the podium would be an emotional moment. That's something you don't usually hear people doing."
