  • Swiss athlete Kariem Hussein talks on Saturday (August 13) of his wider appeal beyond the shores of his own country and his chances in the 400-metre hurdles in Rio.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Kariem Hussein, 400-metre Hurdles, Switzerland (on his preparations and expectations)

"Preparations, difficult to tell. I don't know the preparation was like the last years for the big competitions, like training, training camp, first competition, Diamond League especially. And the expectations were always to reach the final, that is still the goal. Preparation wasn't that satisfying with a little injury but if I can run, if I can bring a hundred per cent, goal is still to reach the final."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Kariem Hussein, 400-metre Hurdles, Switzerland (on his appeal beyond Switzerland due to his mixed parentage, Egyptian father)

"I don't know how famous I am. I don't know how it is in Egypt to be honest. Sometimes I hear some stuff from my father but the most part is in Switzerland. But if it's like this, it's cool...I take it how it is. And it's motivating."
