Germany Olympic coach in Rio hospital

  • Members of the German Olympic Canoe team continue to receive treatment at Rio de Janeiro hospital on Friday (August 12) - with coach Stefan Henze undergoing emergency surgery for life threatening injuries.

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Mario Andrada, Rio Olympics spokesman:

    "One of the coaches of the German canoe slalom team and another person also from the Germany team were victims of a car accident. They were coming back to the Olympic village in a cab late in the evening and there was an accident. One of them has been taken to hospital. Our preliminary reports say there was a serious accident, although we have nothing confirmed from the hospital."
