Cricket: Bangar 'very satisfied' with opening day

  • Reaction after India finished the third Test against with the West Indies on 234 for 5 on Tuesday (9th August).

SOUNDBITE: (English) Sanjay Bangar, India batting coach:

"See once you bat on the first day of any Test match it's quite challenging, especially the first session and, we got to 87 in the first session. We would have ideally wanted to have lost one wicket less, but we thought that we handled the first session pretty well. Second session yes, we would have definitely liked to have a few more runs. We sort of couldn't come out with enough solutions for the lines, which the off-spinner was bowling. He was bowling a very defensive line, taking six fielders on the on side and also the ball getting softer, the state of the condition of the outfield. So all those factors need to be looked into, but at the end of it I thought it was a hard-fought Test.... match day one, and to have come out of that and be in the position that we are in, I'm very, very satisfied with the way the batsmen applied themselves."
