Wall sets record with Paul Lawrie Match Play victory

  • Anthony Wall beat Alex Noren in the Paul Lawrie Match Play final at Archerfield (7th August), 16 years and 204 days after his maiden victory - a new European Tour record.

    Anthony Wall claimed his second European Tour title in his 489th start, after defeating Alex Noren on the final hole at the Paul Lawrie Match Play.

    The Englishman lost the opening two holes at Archerfield and had to wait until the 11th to take the lead for the first time.

    The 41 year-old two-putted for par at the last - and left Noren needing a birdie to force extra holes from 15 feet.

    The Swede's effort ran over the left edge of the hole to leave Wall celebrating for the first time since winning the Alfred Dunhill Championship in January 2000; 16 years and 204 days after his maiden victory - a new European Tour record.

    Meanwhile, fellow Englishman James Morrison won the third-place play-off againstt compatriot Oliver Fisher 4 and 3 after beginning with two birdies and an eagle to build a lead he did not relinquish.
