  • Simona Halep beat Angelique Kerber in the semi-final of Rogers Cup on Saturday (30th July).

Two of the biggest stars in the women's game met in the semi-final of the Rogers Cup as Simona Halep took on Angelique Kerber for a place in the final.

Fifth seeded Halep took control early on - and in some style.

The Romanian hammered her German opponent 6-0 in a completely one sided first set.

Second seeded Kerber simply unable to compete.

But in contrast the second set it was Halep who was on the back foot.

Kerber upped her game but in truth both were making simple mistakes in a match filled with errors.

The Australian Open champion won six games in a row as she leveled at one-set all, before Halep once again responded.

The Romanian has beaten Kerber every time they have met on hard a court and she continued that record.

She took it 6-2 in the final set for a 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 victory and a place in the final.
