  • South Africa's Kevin Anderson came from a set down to beat Bernard Tomic from Australia and clinch a quarter-final place at the ATP 1000 Rogers Cup in Toronto on Thursday.

    Meanwhile, Kei Nishikori neat Rajeev Ram in straight sets.

    Early on 12th seed Bernard Tomic faced the big-serving South African, Kevin Anderson.

    Tomic had never lost to Anderson previously and the Australian quickly found his rhythm.

    6-4 he took the opening set.

    Anderson has suffered a lean time on the ATP Tour of late but benefited from the retirement of Austria's Dominic Thiem in the previous round.

    Here at 1-1 set all and a break up, Anderson had Tomic on the backfoot.

    Tomic would hold, yet couldn't deny Anderson the win.

    Anderson earning a quarter-final tie against second seed Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland.

    It was much more straightforward for third seed Kei Nishikori of Japan who beat Rajeev Ram of the United States 6-3, 6-4.

    The world number six wrapped things up in one hour and eight minutes to book a quarter-final meeting against either Croatian Ivo Karlovic or Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria. The pair play later on Thursday afternoon.
