AC Milan come out on top after Bayern shootout

  • Giacomo Bonaventura scored the winning penalty as AC Milan beat Bayern Munich in a shootout in their International Champions Cup clash.

Milan coach Vincenzo Montella joined his Bayern Munich counterpart Ancelotti in naming a strong line up for their International Champions Cup clash at Chicago's Soldier Field,Stadium.

And it was the Italian side who struck first when Babacar Niang pounced on a defensive error by Holger Badstuber, to put AC Milan 1-0 up after 22 minutes.

But their lead was short-lived after good work down the left side from David Alaba allowed Franck Ribery to level for the Germans with a fine strike,
Alaba then made it 2-1 to Bayern just nine minutes later, after his shot through a crowd of defenders deceived the young Milan shot-stopper, allowing Ancelotti's side a half-time lead.

However, the sides were level once again just minutes after the restart when Andrea Bertolacci equalised for the Serie A side.

Juraj Kucka was then fortunate to score what looked to be the winner just after the hour mark as his shot from range deflected, sending Ulreich the wrong way.

But with the 90-minute mark approaching, Bayern increased the pressure, drawing a clumsy challenge from the Italians.

Ribery stepped up confidently to seal his brace and force the penalty shoot-out in Chicago

High-quality spot-kicks followed with the first seven penalties coolly converted, before Rafinha's effort was saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma - thus allowing Giacomo Bonaventura to smash home the winner.
