Olympians begin to arrive into Rio de Janerio

  • Olympic delegations from Japan, Germany and Thailand, among others, touched down in Rio on Monday (25 July) ahead of the Summer Games that start in less than two weeks.

    Athletes from across the world continued to arrive in Rio de Janeiro on Monday. ahead of the start of the Olympic Games which start with the opening ceremony on Friday August 5th.

    Meanwhile, Rio officials have had to deal with complaints about the Olympic housing.

    On Sunday, the Australian party refused to check in at the Olympic Village when it officially opened, complaining about water leaks, gas leaks, electrical faults and filth that delegation head Kitty Chiller said "endangered" athletes.

    But the South African Olympic team says it is happy with its accommodations in Rio, calling the apartments "excellent."

    The 31-building village is expected to house 18,000 athletes and officials.

    Organisers promised to fix any existing problems by Wednesday.
