Tired shots 'not good enough' - Flower, batting coach

Tuesday, July 26 2016 by SNTV
  • Pakistan's batting coach, Grant Flower, gave a fairly damning verdict of the performances of the batsmen on Day 2 of the Second Test at Old Trafford (Saturday July 23). Pakistan were 57-4 at stumps and trail England by 532 runs in the first innings.

"Oh, extremely damaging. There were some very tired shots there. A day and three-quarters in the field...it wasn't good enough. Although, we still have some very good players to come in and we are going to have to bat a lot better second time around."

"It's a good wicket. It hasn't changed much... actually it probably got a bit harder and quicker today, (the ball) came on to the bat better, but there was a bit more bounce, but it's still a very good batting wicket."

"I think it will definitely turn a bit more. Then the bounce should get a little more uneven. Simple as that."

"Yeah, I think more of the latter, but obviously a huge score like that plays tricks, but that's what happens in Test cricket. The guys have played a lot of Test cricket, a lot of them have got very good records, but yeah, it's no excuse."

"Oh, it was brilliant. He made it look very simple. He left a lot of deliveries and he just played the patience game. Obviously, he's got great strokes to go with that patience and yeah, he made it look quite simple."
