The head of the Australian Olympic delegation said on Monday (25th July) there has been "fantastic progress" repairing the team's accommodation in the Olympic village.

"It's been a really positive day actually. There's been a lot of Australians walking around the village with big smiles on their faces. Primarily because we finally have athletes with us, but also because there's been an enormous amount of progress in the last 24 hours. As of three o'clock today we have had three floors that are now complete and as we were walking out of the village a whole crew of cleaners were walking into the village to clean those three floors of apartments. Australia has a total of 15 floors in our building 23. We expect three more floors to be handed over to the cleaners tonight then by the close of business tomorrow we expect our entire building to be complete, ready to be handed over for a final sparkle clean apart from seven apartments, that's around 30 beds. There are still some issues in those apartments around leakages that will take one or two more days. So, fantastic progress today. The workers that were with us today have been absolutely really good. They've been working very hard, they are very skilled and we are very, very happy with the progress. It's looking like according to our plan that we will be able to move everybody in on Wednesday."

"I certainly hope not. The complaints were not against Brazil, they were not against Rio and they were not against the people of Rio or Brazilians. It's a beautiful country and a beautiful city and a beautiful people."

"For the last two years I've been saying this is one of the best villages of the six I've ever been in and I would still say that it will be the best village I have ever been in once all these issues are complete."
