Taekwondo athlete Maria del Rosario Espinoza vowed that the Mexican Olympic team "will give our best effort to make Mexico proud" as the Mexico President Enrique Pena Nieto handed over the Mexican flag to athletes participating in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday (21st July).

"Members of the delegation that will represent us in the Olympic and Paralympic Games of Rio 2016, I come, in the name of Mexico, to entrust to your patriotism this flag that symbolises its independence, its honour, its institutions and integrity. Do you pledge to respect and honour it with loyalty and determination?"
