Friday, July 22 2016 by SNTV
  • Julen Lopetegui was officially unveiled as the new coach of Spain at a news conference in Madrid on Thursday (21st July).

SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Julen Lopetegui, Spain coach (asked about potential changes to the Spain team):

"Changes? We will see as we get closer to the next training camp and we'll decide what's best to face the first games. We'll bear in mind the shape and condition of the players, the opponents we're playing.... But it's clear for us that there will not be a revolution. There will be an evolution, towards our ideas. We will make our humble contribution, but it will be ours and we will make it with no hesitation."

SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Julen Lopetegui, Spain coach (on replacing Vicente del Bosque):

"I haven't had the chance to speak to Vicente, but I will. We have a splendid relationship and I don't think there´s a better mirror to look at. He's done an extraordinary job at all levels. He's been exemplary, which is important. So we have a good path to follow. And he set the bar high, we're aware of that, too."
