2nd Test: Yasir injury scares Pakistan; Rashid could play

Friday, July 22 2016 by SNTV
  • England captain Alastair Cook on Thursday (21st July) described the furore over the non selection of James Anderson in the first Test against Pakistan as "an unimportant sideshow".

Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq reassured fans on the eve of the second Test against England that his star leg-spinner Yasir Shah was fit, as the tourists look to build on their 1-0 series lead at Old Trafford in Manchester on Friday (22nd July).

Steven Finn was sent packing from the England squad at Old Trafford as he was left out of the remaining 12-man squad.

In his place Adil Rashid, the Yorkshire spinner is kept on with the wicket in Manchester expected to turn.

England come into the second test with Pakistan 1-0 behind in the series.

Cook said that Rashid has 'every chance' of playing in the Test, and one man who will certainly be selected is James Anderson:

"It's great to have Jimmy back, he's an outstanding bowler, it's great to have him fully fit. Again like all these decisions when you are making the decision, hindsight, if he'd bowled 30 overs and really hurt his shoulder and was out for a game, you know, we'd all be sitting here being disappointed with that decision. In hindsight."

So Stokes and Anderson back in the frame for England.

What about for Pakistan? Well they had a real injury scare when star man of the First Test Yasir Shah took a nasty tumble in the nets.

Captain Misbah Ul-Haq aleve those fears though.

Q: "Well, for a moment it must have been a bit of a concern to see your main spin bowler in pain?

"Yes, it was, but after the scan I think he's ok."

Statistics prove that spinners often take wickets at Old Trafford - seven of the last 12 five-wicket hauls have come from slow bowlers - so England may also be tempted to play two spinners of their own, for sure the new World No 1 ranked bowler Yasir Shah will be the main focus for England at Old Trafford tomorrow.
