  • Arturo Mina's 87th minute goal salvaged a 1-1 home draw for Independiente del Valle Wednesday, 20 July, in the opening leg of the Copa Libertadores Final against Atletico Nacional.

Fireworks and a cracking atmopshere for the opening leg of the Copa Libertadores Final. Independiente del Valle hosting Atletico Nacional.

It was the Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle that came closest early on. In the 22nd minute Junior Sornoza's free kick bounced in the box and ricocheted off Arturo Mina's face but Franco Armani made the save.

But it was Atletico Nacional who took the lead on the 36th minute. Macnelly Torres got the ball in to Orlando Berrio, who cut into the middle and fired a right-footed strike that found its way into the bottom corner. Berrio with his fourth goal of the competition and Atletico were in front.

Independiente's Jose Angulo had to be stretchered off in the second half when Elkin Blanco's late challenge left him in some pain.

But Independiente didn't need him to draw level. With four minutes remaining Junior Sornoza's free kick wasn't dealt with by Armani but the rebound ricocheted to Arturo Mina, who put it away. It was just the sixth goal conceded by Atletico in the competition.

That was how it ended- perfectly poised ahead of the return leg on 27 July in Colombia.
