  • There were second round wins for John Isner, Bernard Tomic and Gael Monfils at the Citi Open on Wednesday (20th July).

Germany's Alexander Zverev won the battle of two of the game's rising stars with a straight sets win over Taylor Fritz of the United States at the Citi Open in Washington DC on Wednesday (20th July).

Alexander Zverev took on fellow teenager Taylor Fritz in the second round of the Citi Open in Washington DC on Wednesday

The 19 year-old Zverev became the youngest player to break into the world's top 30 this month since Rafael Nadal back in 2005, and he cruised to victory here.

He showed evidence of his vast promise with a performance that was too powerful for Fritz, only a year his junior.

    Zverev took it 6-4, 6-2.

Top seed John Isner started his Washington campaign with a dominant 6-3, 6-4 win over James Duckworth.

The 31-year-old American served 14 aces and lost only three points on his first serve to take the second-round contest in 63 minutes.

Third seed Australian Bernard Tomic recorded a 7-6 , 6-3 victory over Donald Young.

He closed the match out after one hour and 24 minutes to set up a third-round meeting with 13th seed Ivo Karlovic.

Second seed Gael Monfils gained his first win since 3rd May by breezing past Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei 6-3, 6-2.

The 29-year-old Frenchman hit 10 aces and never faced a break point in the 61-minute match.

He will take on Borna Coric for a place in the quarter-finals.
